Big Tipper’s Return

My worth is not in skill or name, In win or lose, in pride or shame…

‘You won bag?’ ‘Guji Prada very nice’ ‘Sir, you won watch? Rolex I have.’

As I approached the vendor in the market in downtown Shanghai, I wondered how much it would cost to buy the shiny watch?

“How much is it?”

“I give you good price 2000, okay? High quality, look look.”

While the watch looked amazing £200 for a watch like that seemed too good to be true…

“ 真的价格是什么?我在中国住了两年,我知道价格太贵啊!“

“你会说中文?很棒!OK我现在给你中国价格500钱可以吗?“

For those of you who can’t read Mandarin, I essentially told her “I’ve lived in China for two years don’t play games” to which she cut the price by 75%!

My bank account balance apparently correlated to my skin tone…

You’re worth what you earn… or are you?

Seeing Big Tipper return to the mainstream after the video of his mum getting onto him has been pleasantly encouraging. Big Tipper really made my friends, and I laugh back in the day. His snaps were hilarious, and he rightly earned his place in the Black British pop culture hall of fame.

But like many before him, he quietly slipped out the limelight a few years ago. Only to resurface with a bang recently.

As I see people calling him back, one nagging thought bugs me. Do we want Big Tipper back, happy, smiling, joyful, because that what he deserves or so we can get some funny content?

Aren’t his mental health, physical health, family relationships, etc worth more than his return?

Social Media and the rat race of life says you are what you command. You gain respect by getting a reputable job and living in a reputable area and acquiring different countries on your insta highlights.

Unfortunately, you and I feel this pressure often. We push to the next goal to overcome the nagging feeling about our self worth being contingent on it.

But Jesus operates differently. Jesus says you are valuable because you are his. Jesus says his affection cannot be purchased. His affection isn’t reliant on how well you are received on Twitter. Jesus says you are precious because you are his.

Jesus says you are not your mistakes. Jesus says there’s hope when you are in the pit. Jesus offers light despite no one giving you the lamp.

Big Tipper’s return is beautiful. But his return as to become a party trick would be a disaster.

Pray for him man fr fr.
